And so 11 athletes took the daytrip to London for an annual race that I don't think Cardiff Uni had ever competed in before. Imperial College London's Hyde Park relay saw dozens of university teams (including some old boy teams - some of them were pretty old) from around the UK and abroad. We had a Dutchman run for our mens B team because we had 1 too many athletes for the A team. As a result, 4 of us ran twice on the day so we could complete the race for both teams. And although the runners in the B team had almost all run twice, it came down to the last leg between the two teams! Would've been quite a result if the B's beat the A's... After the race Imperial provided some hot food, showers etc before we hit their students union until the early hours. Driving back from London with only one other guy sober was an experience to be forgotten... All in all it was a fun day and hopefully we can make an annual appearance to this race ourselves, hopefully getting there with a bit more time to spare next year though!
