About Us:

Cardiff University Pole Dance Society provides pole dancing classes to our members in a safe, relaxed, social and fun environment. Our classes provide individuals an opportunity to improve their strength, flexibility, coordination, confidence, self-esteem as well as providing an opportunity to meet new friends. As well as our pole classes we offer a number of FREE fitness classes per week which complement pole dancing and allow our members to become well-rounded dancers, and emphasizes the fitness side of pole dancing rather than the negative stigma that it can be associated with. We support and encourage each of our members to feel that sense of achievement as they improve through their lessons mastering spins, holds, technique and the control necessary within the sport, regardless of their gender, size and shape. We promote a healthy body shape, not a thin one.

We were one of only 5 societies last year to achieve a Gold STARS award, having completed a vast range of the criteria throughout the year. We were also honoured to be given the Best New Society award…perhaps Best Society is on the cards this year!

We hold regular socials; sometimes with poles so we can showcase our pole dance skills to other members, and sometimes just to socialise with one another. We also participate in events with other societies (such as showcases) and other universities in competitions (both individually and as a team). We encourage active involvement and participation from our members. Many members have chosen to become key to the running of our society either through a committee role, or undertaking training and becoming an instructor. All of our instructors are current or post Cardiff University students, and we would like this to continue.

The choreography competiton was held in Decmeber where we picked up a few positions. Lauren Sweeney and Rich Cole were named best overall performance, Claire Sweeney came 1st in the beginnner category, whilst Lauren Sweeney and Rich Cole came second. We are hoping to have the same success at inter-uni!

We run our lessons in blocks of 5 weeks. All instructors run to a certain lesson plan to ensure all members receive the same high level of instruction and material within their course.
