SOCIETY AWARDED GOLD STAR STATUS 2011-2012

The Healthcare Music Society (HMS) was founded in 2009 and is going strong 3 years later, bringing together students from all different aspects of healthcare, displaying their talents to raise money for charities through musical performances. Last year HMS hosted 3 main events, “Not such a Silent Night” Christmas Concert, an Open Mic Night and our Best of British Spring Concert, as well as carol singing and a recording of Christmas carols for University Hospital of Wales, raising well over £1150 for local charities.

The society has enjoyed many socials this year, with highlights being an end of term meals at Christmas and Easter as well as a trip to the theatre to watch Avenue Q. The ensembles also meet for drinks after rehearsals which are enjoyed by all.

We have two main ensembles which both rehearse in the University Hospital of Wales Chaplaincy (B5). The orchestra meet on a Tuesday at 7pm and the choir meets on a Thursday at 7.30pm, the rehearsals will begin at the beginning of October alongside a social. The ensembles play and perform a combination of pop, film themes and classical pieces such as Pirates of the Caribbean, You’ve got the love (Florence and the Machine) and many more! We have an evolving male voice group "Ultrasound" who regularly perform in concerts throughout the year.

2012-2013 is geared up to be another exciting year, with more performances and opportunities to perform to raise even more money for charity! Socials are being planned as we speak so don’t forget your fancy dress and party hat!
