The first university canoe polo competition took place last weekend with a strong cardiff contingent of 3 teams taking part, with both the A and B teams taking part in the Open league and the Ladies in their division. The competition took place on a freezing lake just north of London and was all in all a both successful and fun weekend.

The A and B teams were split into the two groups of the open division. The B teams groups was full of tough competition with 2 old boys teams and BUCS semi finalist Nottingham being in their group. The team was well beaten however showed much resolve against Birminghams A team to only loose 1-0 and provide some stiff opposition against Nottingham loosing 3-1. The A team showed total control in their group reaming undefeated with wins over Oxford and Southampton.

The competition then went into the knockout stages with the B team being eliminated by Bath. The A team however went on to be very succesful, progressing to the semi-finals and in the end finishing 3rd only behind 2 old boys teams meaning they were the highest ranked university team.

The Ladies team were succesful in the groups finishing them in 4th place however failed to carry this forward into the knockouts where they were eliminated.

Overall this was a successful showing for Cardiff and all our teams. A big thanks to everyone who was involved in playing and organsiing this trip.
