President
As President of the Law Society, I have the privilege of leading the Committee. I ensure that we work together as a team, listen to your views and exceed all expectations in everything we do.

You are welcome to get in touch with me at any time, but the primary contact for the Law Society is our Secretary, Molly Paatz.

William Akman Law (CLAWS)

AkmanWL@cardiff.ac.uk
Vice President
As Vice President, my primary role is to ensure we do our very best to achieve our Committee objectives in the most efficient and targeted manner for the overall benefit of our members. I will be working very closely with every individual committee member to make certain that the views of the students is reflected in our actions and that we can continue to provide an abundance of opportunities during the forthcoming academic year. One specific task I will be responsible for is the organisation of the Law Society’s annual trip abroad, which aims at introducing our ‘fresher’ students to the many other students in their penultimate and final year. This amongst many other tasks highlights part of my responsibility during this academic year.

For any enquires regarding my role or any of the Law Society operations, please feel at ease to contact me in person, or via the email below, and I will do my very best to respond with alacrity.

Treasurer
My role as Treasurer is centred round the management of financial matters of the Law Society. I have the overall responsibility for managing and presenting the Law Society’s budgets, accounts and financial statements to the Students' Union, the Committee and you as members. Alongside that responsibility, I also oversee the Law Society’s fundraising strategy, for both charitable and non-charitable events.

Other duties that are specifically linked to the role of Treasurer include assisting the President and Vice-President in sourcing sponsorship, liaising with other Committee members on financial matters such as the Law Ball or Book sale, and with the President, Vice-President and Secretary, acting as a link with the Law School.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries about my role or the Law Society's finances.

Secretary
As Secretary, I am your first point of contact with the Law Society. I work closely with all members of the Committee to ensure the smooth running of the Society.

One of my main roles is communicating the plans, actions and progress of the Committee throughout the year, so you always know what is going on with the Law Society. I also agenda and minute the meetings, so I keep tabs on everything going on with the Society.

Please contact me with any and all queries and I will make sure that they are sent to the correct officer, or endeavour to help you myself.

Academic Officer
As Academic Officer my main involvement within the Law Society concerns organising the annual book sales and running, constructing and finally publishing the Cardiff University Student Law Journal. I am primarily looking for independent articles but first class essays will also be considered. If you wish to get in touch about submitting a piece or would just like an informal chat to find out more then please do not hesitate to contact me. Journal writing is a great opportunity both in terms of revision (if you choose to write on a topic you're currently studying) and looks great on your CV, so pick up a pen and get involved.

Publicity Officer
As Publicity Officer my primary objective is overall responsibility to engage students in all publications. This includes the Law Society Magazine (Unprecedented), the Erasmus blog and the Commercial blog. As well as this it is my role to work alongside the Vice to design and promote the Law Society Events and work with the President to ensure the Website is appealing and up to date.
My duty to Law students is to make sure their views are heard and that those who have Law related queries can have those answered by the newly set up ‘All things legal’ forum. As well as this people can now become socially involved and share discussion through the ‘Friendly forum’.

So if you enjoy writing or have any queries please don’t hesitate to get involved or become part of the sub-committee!

Integrated Degrees Officer
As Integrated Degrees Officer it’s my role to cater for those of us studying Law alongside another subject. Integrated courses can sometimes feel like a bit of a hodge podge of topics, so it’s essential that integrated students are kept in the loop both academically and socially. The former will be done by integrated reps on the Law School Staff/Student Panel and the latter by me (aided by a trusty sub-committee) on the Law Society. This will include organising events with integrated students in mind and keeping integrated students informed of events going on, in and around the Law School, which are of particular interest to us. On top of this, next year we aim to run a ‘Parenting Scheme’ to encourage integration between years as well as courses in the hope that first years in particular will find it easier to get involved in every aspect of life at Cardiff law School.

Please email me at integration@cardiffunilawsociety.co.uk

innocence@cardiffu...
Innocence Officer
Being Innocence Officer is predictably enough primarily based in Cardiff Law School Innocence Project, which is briefly a Pro Bono opportunity to work on real people's cases in an attempt to overturn miscarriages of justice. I am the Student Head of operations and the point of contact for any queries you may have about the project as well as relating to SWAWC. I also act as a point of contact between the Law Society and the project. As an avid supporter of both the experience the project provides you with but also the genuine chance to make a difference, I would urge anyone, even those not looking for a career in Criminal Law to consider applying!

Sports Secretary
As Law Sports Secretary, I am the key link between the Law Society and the Law Sports teams. My job is to work closely with the captains of the sports teams to offer them any help and guidance, and act as their voice in society meetings to ensure their views get heard. I also ensure that Law Sports receives publicity through out the year so everyone is up to date on how well our teams are doing, and they can get the support they deserve.

One of my main roles through out the year is to organise the Freshers Sports Day at the beginning of the year, and also the Law Sports day at the end of the academic year.

Please contact me with any queries about Law Sports that you may have

Professional Students' Representative
As Professional Students’ Representative, I represent the interests of those students who have graduated and are furthering their legal education at Cardiff Law School. It is my responsibility to ensure that the needs of Professional Students are looked after.

By working with the whole Committee, I will endeavour to make the Law Society accessible to the Professional Students. This will be mainly done by keeping the Professional Students up to date with the events that are coming up and by encouraging them to participate in as much as they can.
