Fancy seeing more of the beautiful British landscape (and of course it’s brilliant pubs) whilst meeting some great people? If this sounds good then read on... The Rambling and Hiking club prides its self on being one of the friendliest clubs in the Union, attracting a diverse array of people. With annual membership a mere £15 it is a bargain for a year of breath taking walks, great socials, and of course many very merry memories! THE WALKS We go to many scenic locations, some of which include the picturesque Wye valley, the Pen-y-fan horseshoe, and plenty of waterfall hikes, to satisfy the wild swimmers amongst you. Plus the newly funded Wales Coast Path has recently opened, and with Lonely Planet hailing it a “world top” destination to visit in 2012 we look forward to plenty of coastal hikes too. To add an extra twist to our travels we also have ‘themed hikes’ such as Real Ale rambles (with the Real Ale & Cider Soc), bike hikes, and much more to look forward to! We run 2 walks every weekend, and try to accommodate all levels of walking ability. TRIPS AWAY As well as day hikes, we run 4 expeditions away throughout the year where we all stay in a comfy bunkhouse somewhere for a weekend of walking, drinking and merry times! Last year we went to Shropshire, Snowdonia, and the Beacon Way for three great weekends away. In the summer we also had a brilliant week in the Peak District and we hope to take the club to even more exciting and beautiful locations such as to Pembrokeshire and the Lake District. For those of you with a taste for adventure (and perhaps a bottomless supply of Red Bull!) there will also be a chance to tackle the infamous hiking club Three Peaks Challenge. Try to beat the club record of climbing the three highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales in 23hrs 16 minutes! THE SOCIALS We run socials every Tuesday; the cocktail of open mic nights, meals out, quaint pubs, and pool contests are a great way to meet people and have fun. For the first few weeks we'll be starting in the Taf at 8pm, and moving on to some of Cardiff's best pubs, bars and restaurants. Not forgetting the annual Christmas meal, and new to hiking club, the summer ball! Done in true Ramblers style- rowdy ramblers, fantastic food and drink, and even a ceilidh- what more could you wish for? Being a multi-talented bunch, this year saw the launch of a photo competition, showcasing some great photography skills. With prizes for the most artistic and entertaining, and even pride of place in the club’s calendar, the photo competition is an amusing new addition that is poised to continue (Note extra credit for capturing a slow mo trip up!) The Rambling and Hiking Club is a greatly inclusive way to meet new people and see some truly stunning locations (the photos speak for themselves!)! So don those walking boots, and join the most sociable, unique, and diverse society in Cardiff! |
